Board Member
Occupation: Science teacher at Baxter Springs High School, retired in 2008, wife, mother, and grandmother.
Decision for running for the Board of Education: I wanted to run for the Board because I wanted to stay involved with USD 508 after my retirement. I felt I could provide useful input because I had been a teacher in the district.
Future achievements for USD #508: The board wants the district to maintain their high standards of excellence even during these times of financial problems. We are dedicated to doing the best for our students and teachers regardless of our financial situation. Providing the best education possible for our students is our top priority.
Additional Information: I'm a life-long member of the community and the United Methodist Church. My husband and I both went through school in Baxter and graduated from Baxter High School. I received my BS and MS degree from Pittsburg State University. Our five children also received their education in Baxter. I attribute their success in college and in their adult lives to their education in Baxter schools and their experiences in a loving hometown. Now, we have two grandchildren attending school here. We feel living in Baxter has been a blessing for all of us. I'm proud to be a part of this community and want to give back some of the good things that I have received because of living here.
