UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT # 508
USD#508 is a progressive school district of over 1000 students and 78 faculty. Our facilities include departmentalized buildings with PreK-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12.
Beginning in January 2013, the district is beginning construction of a new Middle School facility for 7th & 8th graders being added as a separate wing to the HS campus, a new 6th grade addition to our 3-5 building and new kindergarten rooms at the PreK-2 building. All of the new building projects will contain FEMA approved safe rooms to ensure the safety of our students and faculty. With the completion of the construction projects, beginning in the 2014-15 school year, our district will have 3 departmentalized building locations with PreK-2, 3-6 and 7-12.
Technology is a vital tool in the learning process and we are proud that Baxter Springs is very progressive in the use of technology at all grade levels. BHS has had the 1:1 Initiative for many years with each HS student issued a laptop computer. BMS students all received iPads for the 2012-13 school year. Our elementary students all have access to classroom computers and 3-5 also have iPads available. Beginning with the 2013-14 school year, our K-2 building will have a 2:1 initiative, giving each student K-12 access to the latest technology integration. Academics is the primary focus of USD#508, and USD#508 has consistently been awarded both STATE and NATIONAL recognition, and continues to excel.
All of our buildings achieve AYP.
Extra-curricular activities also play an important role in a student's education, and USD#508 students continue to receive not only conference, but State titles as well.
